Learn Hands-On Livestock & Regenerative Farming
Our historical volunteer and internship program invited dedicated helpers to learn hands-on small farm management in exchange for their assistance with daily chores, animal care, and farm infrastructure projects.
🐐 Heritage Goat Stewardship
Hands-on experience with rare American Guernsey and Fainting Goats: health evaluations, hoof trimming, herd health routines, and rotational browsing.
🐴 Natural Horsemanship & Care
Paddock/track management, gentle handling, and equine body language grounded in our compassionate classical horsemanship philosophy.
🌳 Ancient Agroforestry Techniques
Hands-on exposure to traditional tree hay (leaf fodder) harvesting, pollarding, and coppicing to supplement livestock feed sustainably.
🌱 Regenerative Soil & Gardens
Biointensive and permaculture garden methods, composting systems, and chemical-free pest management.
Historical Volunteer Profile & Expectations
• Attitude & Reliability: Motivated, honest, attentive to details, and committed to seeing tasks through to completion.
• Safety & Dress Code: Modest, durable farm attire and sturdy closed-toe shoes/boots required around large livestock.
• Working Farm Environment: Drug-free, smoke-free, and alcohol-free working farm environment with focus on animal welfare.
• Mentorship: Primary host and instructor was Carrie Eastman (author of The Energetic Goat and The Healing Of Horses).
Archival WWOOF USA Process
Historically, volunteer applicants joined via WWOOF USA to ensure liability coverage and mutual community guidelines, followed by an orientation meeting and an initial trial work session.
