Read on your Mac, Pc, Tablet, Smart Phone or Kindle Device.This book truly does an exceptional job of outlining the fundamentals of growing your own vertical vegetable garden. It begins by clearly explaining just what is intended by a vertical vegetable garden. In essence, ‘vertical gardening’ represents a novel approach to the art of gardening. It is an approach that is efficient—in terms of both time and space used—and which proves highly fruitful.
The book does a very concise job of outlining the different ways in which you might create your own vertical vegetable garden. Perhaps you want to build a vegetable wall whose frame can be saved and used for multiple seasons. If so, this book provides clear instructions for how you might go about building this structure. Surprisingly, what might initially seem like a daunting task proves to be more achievable than you would have otherwise thought. The text goes on to discuss how you can approach vertical vegetable gardening on a smaller scale. Indeed, smaller-scaled herb palettes allow you to grow your family’s favorite herbs and spices within your small outdoor space. This palette can be repositioned periodically to better soak in the sun’s rays, or shade other areas of your garden.
Even when the reader believes that vertical vegetable gardening could do no more, to improve their lives, this book proves him or her wrong. Indeed, it illustrates how vertical vegetable gardening can easily be transplanted indoors. Accordingly, gardeners everywhere can continue to grow some of their very favorite vegetables and herbs even during the cold winter months. And finally, the book outlines how to best maintain your vertical vegetable garden. After all, getting your garden up and running is only half the battle.
This book proves, through and through, how vertical vegetable gardening can profoundly improve your life. Not only will you reap the nutritional rewards of a traditional vegetable garden, but will do so efficiently within your tiny outdoor space.
Here’s What You Will Learn Inside The Book:
* The Bountiful Benefits of Vertical Gardening
* Building A Well-Rounded Vertical Vegetable Wall
* Different Approaches to Vertically-Mounting Your Vegetables
* Vertical Herb Garden
* Indoor Vertical Gardening Made Easy

Regenerative practices for the farm, garden, orchard, forest, and landscape
Mycorrhizal fungi have been waiting a long time for people to recognize just how important they are to the making of dynamic soils. These microscopic organisms partner with the root systems of approximately 95 percent of the plants on Earth, and they sequester carbon in much more meaningful ways than human “carbon offsets” will ever achieve. Pick up a handful of old-growth forest soil and you are holding 26 miles of threadlike fungal mycelia, if it could be stretched it out in a straight line. Most of these soil fungi are mycorrhizal, supporting plant health in elegant and sophisticated ways. The boost to green immune function in plants and community-wide networking turns out to be the true basis of ecosystem resiliency. A profound intelligence exists in the underground nutrient exchange between fungi and plant roots, which in turn determines the nutrient density of the foods we grow and eat.
Exploring the science of symbiotic fungi in layman’s terms, holistic farmer Michael Phillips (author of The Holistic Orchard and The Apple Grower) sets the stage for practical applications across the landscape. The real impetus behind no-till farming, gardening with mulches, cover cropping, digging with broadforks, shallow cultivation, forest-edge orcharding, and everything related to permaculture is to help the plants and fungi to prosper . . . which means we prosper as well.
Building soil structure and fertility that lasts for ages results only once we comprehend the nondisturbance principle. As the author says, “What a grower understands, a grower will do.” Mycorrhizal Planet abounds with insights into “fungal consciousness” and offers practical, regenerative techniques that are pertinent to gardeners, landscapers, orchardists, foresters, and farmers. Michael’s fungal acumen will resonate with everyone who is fascinated with the unseen workings of nature and concerned about maintaining and restoring the health of our soils, our climate, and the quality of life on Earth for generations to come.

www.cropsfordrylands.com Alternative Crops for Drylands: Proactively Adapting to Climate Change and Water Shortages is a new book that delves into the earth’s smorgasbord of underappreciated edible plants native to the often waterless corners of the world. Research and development should be poured into these plants now, before climate change contributes further to the worldwide spread of deserts. The growing global water crisis has contributed to the depletion of ancient water reserves known as aquifers, dried up rivers and lakes, and to 1.1 billion people not having access to safe drinking water. Worldwide, irrigation accounts for about 70% of freshwater usage. In order to drastically reduce water consumption, the global food supply will need to become much more waterwise. Improved cultivation techniques and technologies are central to this end. Yet, the development of new crop species taken from the wild is equally as important. Certain wild plants such as the South African Marula tree, for example, may yield multiple tons of a nut crop and fruit crop from the same tree in a single year, while requiring no irrigation. The purpose of Alternative Crops for Drylands is to provide a botanical arsenal for combating deforestation & desertification, healing parched landscapes, and simultaneously creating fecund, edible oases in place of today’s degraded landscapes. As such, the book highlights about 70 useful plant species, and discusses their cultural & climatic requirements, native habitats, uses, nutrition, and even propagation requirements. At 324 pages in length, Alternative Crops for Drylands is a unique and useful reference book presented with over 80 full color photographs illustrating the book’s featured plants. The book is technical enough to interest professionals, yet is not too complex for the amateur grower. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dmrrcbNSxo

Permaculture is an integrated system of design, Mollison co-developed with David Holmgren, that encompasses not only agriculture, horticulture, architecture and ecology, but also economic systems, land access strategies and legal systems for businesses and communities. A practiculture way to grow nutrient-dense food, produce healthy fats, and live the good life
The Nourishing Homestead tells the story of how we can create truly satisfying, permanent, nourished relationships to the land, nature, and one another.
The Hewitts offer practical ways to grow nutrient-dense food on a small plot of land, and think about your farm, homestead, or home as an ecosystem. Much of what the Hewitts have come to understand and embrace about their lives of deep nourishment is informed by their particular piece of land and local community in northern Vermont, but what they have gleaned is readily transferable to any place―whether you live on 4 acres, 40 acres, or in a 400-square-foot studio apartment.
Ben and Penny (and their two sons) maintain copious gardens, dozens of fruit and nut trees and other perennial plantings, as well as a pick-your-own blueberry patch. In addition to these cultivated food crops, they also forage for wild edibles, process their own meat, make their own butter, and ferment, dry, and can their own vegetables. Their focus is to produce nutrient-dense foods from vibrant, mineralized soils for themselves and their immediate community. They are also committed to sharing the traditional skills that support their family, helping them be self-sufficient and thrive in these uncertain times.
Much of what the Hewitts are attempting on their homestead is to close the gaps that economic separation has created in our health, spirit, and skills. Ben uses the term “practiculture” to describe his family’s work with the land―a term that encompasses the many practical life skills and philosophies they embody to create a thriving homestead, including raw-milk production, soil remediation, wildcrafting, Weston A. Price principles, bionutrient-dense farming, permaculture, agroforestry, traditional Vermont hill farming, and more. The Nourishing Homestead also includes information on deep nutrition, the importance of good fats, and integrating children into the work of a homestead.
The Hewitts’ story is reminiscent of The Good Life, by Helen and Scott Nearing, and is sure to inspire a new generation of homesteaders, or anyone seeking a simpler way of life and a deeper connection to the world.
