Did you know that wood chips can be magical? It’s true. They may not look very exciting, but they are actually awesome…
.

It’s the time of year to prune and chip the nitrogen-fixing wattles, planted in the orchard between the cherries and nashis and peaches and apples. The wattles sapwood has a special layer in it that fungus love (the ramial layer)… and when this is laid down as fresh wood chip under fruit trees, it hugely supports the fruit trees growth by creating healthy and fungally-dominant soil beneath it.
.

And the pruning releases nitrogen from the wattles roots into the soil, too. Lo-fi organic orcharding with function stacking and closed loop nutrients. Come on peaches, we’re ready for you ? #Melliodora #permacultureskills
