Barakah Heritage Farm

Assalaam alaikum

Thank you for visiting our Family Farmstay page.  We have found that raising our own halal food is beneficial for our wellness and our closeness to Allaah.  We have become more connected to how He provides and learned greater trust and submission by depending on these skills and Allaah for our food.  Additionally, there are multiple hadith narrating the benefits of learning horsemanship.  Our own experience is that horsemanship is a wonderful character-builder.  We hope to share these benefits with your family as well, in shaa Allaah.

In shaa Allaah, you will bring home simple ideas you can incorporate into your life, such as home gardens, poultry for eggs, raising halal meat in the city,  or adding horsemanship to your homeschooling program.

Available May through October

In shaa Allaah, your weekend will include:

  • Gardens and gardening, including discussion about urban and farm gardening and how to start gardening for your family.
  • Goats, sheep and other urban sources of meat and milk.  Learn about our heritage fainting goats, what’s involved in keeping animals for meat and milk, and what sources you could establish at home.
  • The benefits and basics of horsemanship.  Meet our herd of critically rare Arabian horses and our rescue horses.  Learn about basic horse care and options for urban families to get involved with horses.
  • Poultry for eggs and meat.  Learn some basics of poultry care and the pros and cons of different poultry types.  Figure out what poultry could work for you.

Ladies* are taught by CarrieHafsah Eastman, author of The Energetic Goat, goat keeper and a lifelong horsewoman.

Men* are taught by Abu Sukhailah Khalil ibn-Abelahyi, a publisher of Islamic books with years of experience in gardening.

*Children are free to join either parent

Enjoy fishing in the pond, campfires, visits with the horses in the barn or simple outdoor games during your free time.
