October is traditionally the time when you plant garlic. Each individual clove makes one full bulb after about 7 months in the ground. There are two primary types of garlic that you are going to plant, hard neck and soft neck. Hard neck garlic has woody stem going through it as seen by my finger and on the bulb on the right. The soft neck garlic on the bottom of the photo has more of a layered stem that is never hard. Hard neck garlics typically need a colder winter and are the varieties that produce the culinary treasure of a garlic scape. The soft neck varieties usually do better in the milder environments and have a tendency to store a little longer. We are gonna plant both and will keep you updated about the progress! Have a great day All! ✌️? p.s. the purple hard neck variety is an Asian Tempest from @bakercreekseeds and the soft neck is an early California variety from eBay ?
